7.62x39 Let's talk about it! This is a discussion on 6.8 SPC vs. 7.62x39 Let's talk about it! Within the Ammo Dump forums, part of the Firearm Forum category; I am about to finalize a decision on whether or not to go with the Min 14 in 6.8 or the Mini 30 in 7.62x39. Well, with ballistics very similar to the 7.62X39, it leaves it behind as a distance round. For a skirmish round, it should be theoretically better in military guise. For anything else, I still see it as an answer in search of a question. 6 8 spc vs 308 winchester, 608 sps cartridge, m16 7mm spain, what 308 ammo brass for m1a at 750 yards.
I am a huge fan of the 7.62x39 round. It was designed as a battlefield round for WWII if I recall my history dates. 300 yards and in it is exceptional. I am able to hit the 300 yard gong at our range with pleasing regularity with this round. I have heard it said that the NATO rounds were designed to primarily wound and send targets home while the 7.62 was designed to put targets in a body bag. If I need to go out further than 300 yards I'll use a variable scoped 30-06.
Thanks.PS- carried an M16 in the military way back in the day. They have no appeal to me now.
